University of Surrey awarded Engr Humphrey Adibe an Honoris Causa at its 120th Anniversary

In 2011, University of Surrey, Guildford, Surrey, United Kingdom held its 120th anniversary and Engr Humphrey C N Adibe was amongst the alumni awarded honorary degrees to mark the occasion. He was admitted to the Degree of Bachelor of the University (Honoris Causa).

Engr Humphrey Adibe Participated in the First USAID Sponsored ADL – Nigeria Industrial Development Management Training in USA

While serving as a Management Officer and Chemical Engineer in the Government of Eastern Nigeria, Engr. Humphrey C. N. Adibe was amongst the participants in the first Arthur D. Little – Nigeria Industrial Development Management Training Program in the United States.

Engr Humphrey Adibe’s Students’ Union Executive Committee produced the first SU Handbook at WHCT

Engr Humphrey C. N. Adibe (President) and the members of his Executive Committee were elected to pilot the affairs of the Students’ Union of West Ham College of Technology – University of London (now University of East London) for the 1959/1960 session. In that session, the executives supported Adibe to become the first Students’ Union President to produce a Students’ Union Handbook at the college.

Engr Humphrey Adibe was the first Students’ Union President of African origin at WHCT (University of London)

Engr Humphrey C. N. Adibe broke the glass ceiling at the Students’ Union Executive Committee of West Ham College of Technology – University of London (now University of East London) when he emerged as the President for the 1959/1960 session. With that, he became the first African to emerge as the Students’ Union President of the ancient college. Suffice it to say that he achieved this feat at a time that the population of African students was low at the college.

Engr. Humphrey C. N. Adibe enrolled at the prestigious Dennis Memorial Grammar School (DMGS), Onitsha, Anambra State in 1946 and graduated in 1950. At DMGS, he lived in Tugwell House (named after Archbishop Herbert Tugwell, the inaugural Anglican Bishop on the Niger)

Engr Humphrey Adibe represented Nigeria at the 6th UNIDO In-Plant Group Training Program in Quality Control in Sweden in 1978

While working as Principal Standards Officer at the Nigeria Standards Organisation (now Standards Organisation of Nigeria), Engr Humphrey C. N. Adibe represented Nigeria at the 6th United Nations International Development Organization (UNIDO) In-Plant Group Training Program in Quality Control in Sweden between 7th August and 12th October 1978.

American Institute of Industrial Engineers described Engr Humphrey Adibe as a credit to Nigeria

In 1964 when Engr Humphrey C. N. Adibe was doing a program at Syracuse University New York, he gave a speech at the Syracuse Chapter 13 of the American Institute of Industrial Engineers (now Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers) on the night of 10th October 1964.

Biography of Engr. Humphrey C. N. Adibe

EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION:

Engr. (Sir) Humphrey Chukwuemerie Nwora Adibe was born on 15th April 1932 at Uzuakoli (present day Abia State), to the family of Mazi John Ucheagwuike Adibe of Obinetiti, Isikwe Achi and Madam Grace Udejiaku Adibe (nee Ahanonu) of Abor-Umuori, Enuguagu Achi both of Oji River L.G.A. of Enugu State. He was the first child of his late parents who were on their own a part of the early Christians in Achi.
